Future-Proof Websites and Why You Might Need Them

Partners often approach us with websites that don't work or look the way the previous developer team promised. We use technology that ensures that these issues stay in the past.

Why is the Lack of Future-Proofing a Problem for a Business Website?

If developers use completely custom technology for a website, it can lock your business into a costly yet limited situation. Adding new features or adjusting the website should be easy to do. Sadly, many developer teams don’t take this into account.

At Proof we create websites using widely known technology, so it can be upgraded, won’t cost a fortune, and can even be handed over to a new dev team.

How Do Partners Usually Want to Upgrade Websites?

Firstly, they want to be able to change all the text and images on their website. This is what we call “adminable” content. You receive an intuitive, easy to use surface, where you can change all the assets without developer help. This is an entry level function, because we know that updating content on your website is inevitable.

Secondly, clients want to be able to create new landing pages very easily. We cater to this by creating pre-sized and pre-styled blocks that you just have to select, click and fill out, super easy!

More Complex Requests

There are usually 3 more complex requests our clients have: multilingual websites, ecommerce solutions, and mobile app upgrades.

All of these functions can be done very efficiently with WordPress – no, not the builder. We use WordPress as a base, which we build premium custom solutions on top of. The term “custom” is not the same thing we discussed in the first section. Rather, we use custom development to enhance the performance and visuals of the website. This solution keeps the many upsides to using WordPress – such as the continuous upgrades and improvements – while saving you from all the trouble – such as the bad load speeds.

So what do these integrations look like, as a practical example?

We created a multilingual solution, an ecommerce store, with payment integration, invoice automation for the Együtt az Autistákért Alapítvány in just 2 weeks. This simply isn’t possible in custom development, not in this timeframe. An ecommerce solution, with UI/UX design, automated invoices, and a payment system integration is around 100 hours in WordPress. For a totally custom development this can actually take thousands of hours.

This doesn’t only help the timeline, but it greatly reduces costs for you. For most businesses, it’s just much more reasonable to seek a CMS solution. Out of those we prefer WordPress the most, which is possibly the easiest to upgrade and work with.

If WordPress is Cheaper, Faster and Better, Why is Custom Development Still Used for Websites?

You may be asking, since we have told you how great WordPress is, why isn’t everyone using WordPress?

This is because developer agencies often stick to the one technology they have special expertise in. Their own custom framework is convenient to them, but it limits possibilites. They push this onto their clients, even if it’s not future-proof for them.

It goes against our values to force a solution onto a client. We only feel successful when a project is beneficial to both parties, and our client can use their website for several years to come.
