How We Make Successful Websites Step By Step

We compiled the steps of making a successful website into 7 easy to understand sections. We detailed what you as a partner should look out for, what you can expect from your agency partner (Proof, hopefully!), what timeline you can count on, and where a project can possibly go wrong.

Let’s get on the same page

Are you looking for a new website for your new business venture, or looking to update your current one? Has your current website become difficult to manage, or does it not look the way you planned? Were you not satisfied with the agency that made your current website? These are just a few of the struggles our partners have come to us with.

When you think of websites, a lot of different solutions can come to mind. Both the $200 work of a freelancer, or the $10 000+ project of a huge development company. You must obviously choose a web solution suitable for your business needs, as well as your budget.

At Proof we deliver premium business websites with custom UI/UX, well thought-out structure within 2-3 months, from concept to the finished product.

First Step – Business Consulting

The first step in our agency is always a needs assessment – or workshop in case of bigger projects. This is where we clarify what the purpose of the website is. These discussion take your business model into account, and what problems the website will solve for you. This is important because we need a thorough understanding of your challenges and industry, to match our solution to solve the actual problems, and generate tangible business results.

Once we have a mutually clear picture, our dedicated project managers and lead developers get involved. Together, we agree on a timeline, and decide what technology and integrations would be best for the project. We forward these suggestions to you, and answer all your questions, so you can see exactly how the website can be useful for you. As soon as both parties agree on a solution, we send the price quote, and the real project begins.

Our partners are often surprised that we ask them to send us the some text content for the website. Even after these workshops, we don’t know what you would like to emphasize about your business. This is why you and your team should provide us with the messages your website needs to provide to visitors, such as the headlines and descriptions. On a more conceptual level, you also need to tell us products or services you want to highlight and which one of those make you the most profit, so we can help the most.

Second Step – Interactive Design and Visuals

After receiving the text content we ask you what feel and style your website should convey. After this is defined, our seasoned designers begin working on the website. They usually create 3 different landing page concepts, which you can choose from. After you decide which one feels right, they create the most important sub pages (services, pricing, about us, etc).

You receive all the design plans in Adobe XD links, where the prototype can be clicked, scrolled, swiped, just like the real website will be. This is an awesome solution because you can get a feel of the final product without huge costs being involved. After all the design plans are agreed on, the development begins.

Third Step – Development

At Proof, all our websites run on WordPress, but not the builder, template, plugin ridden WP you may know. We instead use a custom developed framework, so we can rely on multiple years of experience and optimization.

Fun Fact: WordPress is the most popular content management system, accounting for 59.7% of software-built websites!

We stand out because we have a close-knit, highly experienced team, specializing in these types of WordPress projects. These developers (who are not freelancers, nor marketers) take the project in their hands, using development principles, and they deliver a pixel-perfect, precise website.

We work in agile & incremental development, taking the project in 2-week sprints. This allows you to give us constant feedback and for the project to evolve, and us the time to deliver everything as requested.

Of course, the project manager communicates with you regularly, with updates, so you always know the progress we’re making, and any potential questions, to make sure the results will be satisfactory.

Fourth Step – Quality Assurance & Review

We have a designated test environment that is only available to the development team. This is where we put everything together, and begin testing every functionality. During the quality assurance phase we examine the website on all browsers, screen sizes (tablet and mobile too), in order to provide the best experience possible. If we spot any issues or bugs, we correct them at this point.

We finalize all the content, images, text, optimize them, check SEO, and we can practically call the project done!

Fifth Step – Going Live

This is the last active step during the project. We migrate the website to its final domain, with all the user data and settings, so you receive the website ready for visitors, in a turnkey state. From here on out, you don’t have to worry about renewing your website for several years, unless your business grows too fast.

Sixth Step – Hosting, if Needed

Naturally, you aren’t on your own even after the project is complete. We’re usually asked to handle maintenance and hosting, which we gladly do. We take care of every technical detail in order to ensure the website is running smoothly, in a fast and secure environment so that you don’t have to worry about it.

7th Step – What’s Next?

It’s important to mention that even the top, best websites do not generate revenue on their own. A talented marketing or sales team and strategy is just as important as the website. Of course there are exceptions, if the website itself is not part of the sales funnel, it instead can serve a branding purpose.
